What is Google Trends?
Google actually already provides a service that you can use to do keyword research that is often used and hot topics that are being discussed. This service is specifically for marketers who want to search Google search data to create interesting content. This program is named Google Trends.
- How to Open Google Trends Using a Google account
If you already have a Google account, all you have to do is open the Google Trends page.
At the beginning of this section, you will see a sample map display of search results based on certain keywords. At the bottom, you will see keywords that have increased.
On the same page, you can also see buttons for filtering topics by country, time, category and search type; web search, news search, Google shopping, Youtube search.
You can get information about the most popular keywords that are searched for every day.
- How to Find Keywords in Google Trends
You already know some of the basic functions of Google Trends. To find any keywords related to the topic you are looking for, you can write them in the column “Enter a Search Term or a Topic” or “Add a Search Term”
For example, when I type the keyword “Cloud”, Google Trends will bring up fairly complete information about the intensity of Google Search users using the word “Cloud”.
In the first table you will see a graph of the trend of users searching using the word “Cloud” for the past year. The graph uses data by country according to your current location. However, you can adjust the scope of data collection according to what you need.
The number shown by Google search (0-100) is not the number of users who searched using that keyword. It is an approximate number of users who perform a search using the keyword “Cloud”.
After the graph, at the bottom you can see the distribution of interest that users search for using the keyword “Cloud” by region. Google Trends can provide a simple and easy-to-understand display using a country map.
The blue color shows the most search results performed in that area, while the light blue color indicates less areas. It could be that there is a colorless area that does a search, but because there are only a few, Google Trends does not provide a color.
In my opinion, the bottom part is the part that provides the most information for you to develop the topic. In this section you can find topics and queries (keyword suggestions) related to “Cloud”.
In the example below, when talking about the cloud, it will most likely relate to “web hosting”, “hosting method”, “domain”, “domain hosting”, and so on. Through this information, you can develop them into interesting content ideas.
The results of the suggestions that you get are sometimes still quite broad. So what you need to do is be more specific about the keywords you want to analyze – at least two to four words.
- How to Use Google Trends to Compare Keywords
It’s easy to get some potential keywords from Google Trend, but are they any better than other potential keywords? You can compare it directly.
On Google Trend there is a comparison feature to compare keywords with up to five keywords. This feature allows you to compare search rates between keywords in the form of graphs, map areas, and related queries.
You can also filter by location, time of day, category and type of search.
Google Trend also provides download, embed options, and you can share them directly.
- How to Use Specific Search Options
Google Trend can not only be used to analyze the level of search on Google Search. You can analyze what is mostly searched for on YouTube. You can access this feature on the same page. You can see it in the image below.
When you click YouTube, Google Trends will automatically change the graphic display to search data from YouTube.
Even if they use the same keywords, the search graphs on Google Search and YouTube are definitely different, as they are two different services and people are more likely to search for videos on YouTube than on Google Search.
Apart from using YouTube Search, you can search for other searches, such as Image Search, News Search, and Google Shopping. Among the four types of searches, YouTube Search is a fairly popular feature if you want to target visitors using videos.
- Predicting Trends
Google Trend provides complete information. You can use the information you get from Google Trend to make content as attractive as possible according to the appropriate keywords. Of course this raises a sense of optimism that it will be able to occupy the top position of search results. However, it’s not that easy.
The problem is not how you create content, but more about how you view the data you get from Google Trends.
Keep in mind that not only are you using Google Trends as an analysis application, but they – competitors, bloggers, adsense searchers, and so on – are also most likely to use Google Trends. This makes the data you get the same as the data they get.
However, there are things you need to know.
Not everyone can read data correctly. When all users analyze the same data, the results are likely to vary. The best way to address this is with discretion in managing data.
There are three suggestions that you might find useful:
- Identify trends according to the countries or categories you are targeting.
- Compare phrases that have the same meaning. For example, the keyword “cheap Indonesian domain” has a different volume from “cheap Indonesian domain”.
- Look at the chart. If the graph is getting higher, it is possible that the future trend will continue to rise. But you need to be careful and careful about this. It could be that the trend is up only for a certain time.
- Find Additional Insights on the “Top Chart”
The Top Chart is different from the trend most people are looking at. You can call this feature as the 100 content that is hotly talked about on Google. You will see trending topics across different categories.
For example, the most popular animal to date is deer. Apart from that you will find many other interesting things.
On the Top Chart you will find information that dogs are more dominant in conversation than cats.
However, please note that all this depends on the context.
- Using the Trending Cycle to Position Products
If the previous point has discussed a little how the context influences the number of searches. Through context, you can see if any cycles might occur.
The cycle is like when someone will search for keywords at certain times. For example, the keyword “breaking the fast menu” which usually increases in the month of Ramadan and decreases on weekdays. You can use this to offer your products related to the iftar menu. You do this by writing content that targets the keyword “iftar menu”.
